College Football is officially getting weird! It is making me feel uncomfortable for some reason. I feel like everything that I once knew, I have to relearn.
It’s official, USC and UCLA have joined the Big Ten conference starting in 2024. I know you all have been dying to get my take on the matter so here it goes. Eh. I honestly don’t know. I think it is one of those changes that in the first year will feel wrong but once I get used to seeing UCLA and USC lose to Minnesota year after year, it will be normal.
If you force me to take a hard stance one way or another, I will go with I love it. Reason being, my Ohio State fandom is number one and then a distant second place is the Big Ten. If college football is turning into the NFL with two huge power conferences and players getting paid, I obviously prefer that the Big Ten be one of the big dawgs.
Now the race is officially on between the Big Ten and SEC as to which conference can acquire the most talented teams. There has always been high school recruiting, now there is college school recruiting. And honestly the recruiting pitch to an 18 year old 4 star athlete and a power 5 conference school isn’t that different. Saban walks into a kids parents living room, sells them on how Bama is the best for national recognition and getting you to the next level. He then conveniently forgets his briefcase that has $1,000,000 in it on his way out the door. Kevin Warren (Big Ten commissioner) is probably doing the same exact pitch to Oregon as you read this. It is all about money and national exposure which the Pac 12 has none of.
I would like to be the first to welcome USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Stanford and Notre Dame to the Big Ten. If you come at the king, you best not miss. If it isn’t obvious, I am referring to the Buckeyes as the king. Just wanted to clarify.
